Join BSANZ President Simon Farley (Fryer Library, The University of Queensland) in conversation tomorrow with a panel of speakers who will share their insights and experiences of collecting and curating books for professional and private use.

Our panelists will share their thoughts on the motivation behind collecting, the challenges faced, the thrill of discovery, and the future of book collecting in an increasingly digital age. Questions will be invited from attendees at the end. Please note that this session will be recorded. Speakers for this session are:

  • Maggie Patton: Head of Collection Acquisition & Curation at The State Library of New South Wales and BSANZ Councillor
  • Dawn Albinger: President of The Australian and New Zealand Association of Antiquarian Booksellers (ANZAAB), co-proprietor of Archives Fine Books in Brisbane
  • Chris Browne: Professor Emeritus at Monash University, Program Director, Melbourne Rare Book Week

Join BSANZ Vice President, Roger Osborne (Roderick Associate Professor of English Literature, James Cook University) in conversation with Philip Kent (University Librarian, University of Sydney), Anne Goodfellow (Rare Books and Special Collections Liaison Librarian, University of Sydney), and Damian Cairns (Heritage Collections Librarian, University of Canterbury) about the future of special collections.

With dwindling investment in specialised curatorial roles in rare books and heritage collections, Roger will be talking with Philip, Anne, and Damian about how collecting institutions can work towards building a strong profile for special collections, fostering interest, and giving them new life.

Take some time out of your day and join the Bibliographic Society of Australia and New Zealand’s Executive and Engagement Committee for the first of our new occasional webinar series.

For our inaugural session, join BSANZ President Amanda Laugesen (Director, Australian National Dictionary Centre, ANU) in conversation with members of the executive and engagement committee.
